Buying Rope Lights

Rope lights are often one of the most cost-effective ways to decorate your garden, or interior all year round. They are usually fairly inexpensive, and come in lengths to suit all needs.

You can get a rope light to fit your exact needs. Choosing between traditional incandescent bulbs and newer LED models makes the buying process harder, but even then it’s still fairly trivial. LED rope lights are more expensive, but last longer, and are more flexible. Traditional rope lights are cheaper, and are often easier to find in shops.

Choosing the right coloured rope light is also important too. If you wanted rope lights to light up under an outside gazebo in the summer, you wouldn’t choose a deep red shade, but a white one instead. Likewise, if you were after a ropelight for your Christmas tree, you would want something that matches the decor.

As an alternative to the traditional rope lights that area available on the market today, it is also possible to purchase LED rope lights. These offer many advantages over traditional bulb-based ropelights in the forms of lower power consumption, increased brightness, and much longer lifespans.

LED bulbs have a longer lifespan than traditional filament bulbs, so although an LED ropelight may cost more initially, it will outlast traditional ones by a large time scale.

LED ropelights are also cheaper to run than standard rope lights, as LEDs are inherently cheaper to run, often running a lot of bulbs for each Watt of electricity used.

However, LED ropelights are a relatively modern invention, and so the price is higher. This increased price often means that people purchase standard filament bulb based ropelights instead. It’s definitely a false economy though, as the price of the ropelights is far outweighed by the savings in running costs and longevity.

Summer is fast approaching and we are entering barbeque and party season. Whether you are having a party indoors or outdoors it is important that you decorate accordingly to get everyone in the party mood.

Rope lights are one of the best options when it comes to party decorations, not only are they available in a wide variety of colours but they are extremely versatile which means that they can be used in a number of different locations. Some people choose to have rope lights permanently draped across their mantelpiece. This means that in the evening they can relax with the subtle lighting that they emit.

The most popular indoor places to drape your rope lights include the staircase, mantelpiece, curtain poles or shelving. If you opt for LED rope light you can relax in the knowledge that you are likely to get 10’s of thousands of hours of lighting from your purchase. LED rope lights also use a lower amount of energy so they are perfect for the more environmentally conscious among us.

If you are purchasing your rope lights for use outdoors just make sure that they are compatible for the weather conditions as not all rope lights are. Ideally you would want your rope lights encased in acrylic tubing as this makes them safe in variety of weather conditions. If you opt for LED rope light/s many of those have a fuse bulb so if one bulb goes you can rest assured that the rest of the bulbs will not go at the same time.
